- Obituary Charles Bryant Wood Trade Union Educator

Charles Bryant Wood, 72, a trade union educator who was Caribbean regional director of the American Institute for Free Labor Development from 1983 until his retirement in 1991, died of cancer Feb. 8 at his home in Browntown, Va.
Mr. Wood, a former resident of Arlington, was a native of Portsmouth, Va. He graduated from American University and George Washington University's law school. He began his career as a contracts specialist for the Communications Workers of America.
He was Caribbean regional director of the Peace Corps and program director for Jamaica during the early years of the agency. He later directed a management skills program for public officials at Georgetown University and was education director in Washington for the institute.
He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Washington and a volunteer in Arlington with PTAs and the Committee of 100 civic group.
Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Mary Ann Taylor Wood of Browntown; three daughters, Elizabeth Iden of Browntown, Va., Melanie Keith of Fairfax and Charlynn Turner of Harrisonburg, Va.; a brother; a sister; and five grandchildren.
