    • Richard Stark Edman the man of great faith Marcellus Edman and Eleanor Sophia Stark. He had 4 brothers, John, Nick, Gary, and Frank and one sister named Sharyn Ann. His early years were spent in Salem Utah. It was a small town of only about 1000 people. His father was a farmer and he worked for him when he was old enough. They had 40 acres of farmland and a horse, 3 cows and some chickens and they grew row crops for Del Monte, Sugar Beets, and alfalfa for the cows. Richard had tto milk the cows and take them to the pasture using the horse. He helped feed the animals and helped gather the eggs. During the summer they were always busy with the crops. Weeding, watering, hauling hay and harvesting the crops and hauling theem to the cannery. His parents taught him the value of hard work, whether in the field, at school or on the job. is favorite hymn was How Great Thou Art. In school he took trumpet lessons and he played in the Jr. High School Band and the High School Band and the Marching band as a trumpet player. When he was young things were quite different. An ice cream cone was only a nickel, and kids worked very hard and didn’t expect to be paid. Kids also drove very early on the fararm in those days. He drove the truck in the field when he was only 8 or 9. Richard respected his Elders and responded when asked to do something. h Fork High and dated into College. He fell head over heels. Believe it or not Richard was a very jealous man when it came to Colleen. His mom Alene told the story of a time that Colleen went on a date with one of his friends to a movie. Richard found out about it and sat right behind them in the movie theater. After a while he couldn’t take it any longer. He left the movie theatre and let the air out of Larry’s tires. On March 18, 1960 he married Colleen in the Salt Lake Temple. He had a lot of respect for her and when asked the question “Who is your best friend?” for his written history, he said, “Colleen”. e tested aircraft weapon systems by firing and dropping ordinances on the test range. He would go into the test center and set up the test and conditions on the ttest, controlling the aircraft and recording all the data. He loved what he did and he was a wonderful provider for his family. Somewhat stern with his kids in his younger years. However, after colleen died, he took on the nurturing role that shshe had. His daughter Janet jokes that as he got older, he turned into a woman. He also had the ability to fix anything and h would not just fix something to get by, he would figure out the problem and fix it correctly. He was truly a man of God, never wavering, and always on the correct path. He served many times as a ward and stake clerk. He also served on the high council but he hated speaking in front of people. He was an example to everyone and would literally do anything for someone in need. But it was always done quietly. No one knew this about him because it wasn’t talked about, it was just done.
