    • Moroni Stark Highlights from History written by Eleanor Stark Edmanin Spanish Fork, Utah.
His father was Soren Pederson Stark and his mother was Anne Sophia Nielson Stark. He had two younger brothers Alma and Nephi. His sister Elizabeth died when she was just 14 years old. A baby boy, Joseph died the same day of his birth. Moroni's mother and father came to Utah as early pioneers in 1863. Their home in Spanish Fork consisted of a two room addobe, which they thought was most comfortable. They moved to the lower East Bench when the family took up homestead there. 8 and Nephi 5. They had a barren homestead, a yoke of untrained oxen with which to make a living. But Moroni's mother was a very resourceful woman and with the help of her boys, she managed very well. When Moroni was 16, he and his mother thought that the younger ones could manage their small farm, and Moroni got a job to bring in some much needed cash for the family. He worked as a teamster and for a assayer assisting in assaying ore at the Mammoth mine in Eureka. When work was slack he took courses at BY College. te and kept in close touch with Sarah Hansen, whose parents were friends of his mother. Sarah was a lovely girl, smart and ambitious. She had a burning desire for an education and with that in common, Sarah and Moroni grew in affection for each other. They were marrieied on February 10, 1897 in the Salt Lake Temple. They moved to a little home that Moroni had bought in Mammoth. Here their first daughter, Anna was born. The Mammoth Ward was organized that year with George Hales as bishop witith Moroni Stark as first counselor and Rufus Snell as second counselor. The following year a call came for missionaries from this little ward. Moroni was one who accepted a call to the Northeastern States Mission with headquarters in Detroit, Michigan. He spent 27 months serving a successful mission and came home November 1, 1901. Sarah had moved from Mammoth to a little house her brothers built her next to her Aunt Len'a in Spanish Fork. Here Moroni greeted her and little Anna and a new baby boy, Henry, who had been born four months after Moroni left., he didn't want to raise his children in a mining camp. Grant was born in Spanish Fork before they moved into the log house that the Koyles had lived in on the farm. Mark was born in the log house on October 9, 1904 and Eleanor blessed their home two years later on August 29, 1906.. All the children attended BYU, four graduated, Henry went on for a doctor's degree, AnAnna and Eleanor became teachers, and Grant and Mark became farmers.worked hard on the farm. Moroni grubbed willows, thus adding to the acres he could farm. He was never idle. As the boys grew they too learned the work to do and so did the girls. It was a long day. Most of the time supper of bread and milk and cheese was at nine pm. Moroni didn't want a cooked meal at night. Every so often he would buy another piece of land, paying for it after tthe next harvest.ssion he arrived home in October 1917. It had been a struggle for Sarah and her kids. Henry had to stay out of school a good deal to plant and harvest. helped bring the electric power line into Leland, he also helped build roads and bridges. He was a Sunday School teacher for many years and served in the bishopric of Lars P. Larsen. He and Sarah were honest in their tithe paying and in all their dealings. there much improved in healtlth.ed to say something to Harold, but Harold couldn't understand him and ran to get Anna and Sarah. Moroni was now on his back unconscious. He died at 11 pm that night without regaining consciousness. Moroni's motto on work was "The privilege of work is a gift. The power of work is a blessing. The love of work is success." His guiding influence was his religion and his faith in his Heavenly Father.
